Hailing from Madison, Wisconsin, violist Maureen Sheehan is a passionate chamber musician and recent Master’s graduate of the New England Conservatory in Boston. Around the northeast, Maureen has performed with Grammy-nominated ensembles Palaver Strings and A Far Cry Chamber Orchestra, as well as the NEC Chamber Orchestra and Harvard Baroque Orchestra. An avid collaborator, she also enjoys playing with her quartet, the Calandra Quartet, which earned distinction as an NEC Honors Ensemble this past year. Maureen holds the first prize title from Ohio Viola Society’s 2021 Competition for Young Violists, is the 2023 Viola Prize winner of Tuesday Musical’s Scholarship Competition, and has appeared at Carnegie Hall as principal violist with the Oberlin Orchestra. Summer experiences have included Manchester Music Festival, Encore String Quartet Intensive, Blackburn Music Academy at Festival Napa Valley, and the Carmel Bach Festival. Outside her classical studies, Maureen plays Irish fiddle and is a pupil of renowned fiddler Liz Knowles-O’Hare. Maureen holds Bachelor’s degrees in Anthropology and Viola Performance from Oberlin College and Conservatory, where she was a student of Peter Slowik.
